The Equity Release Council is the UK trade body, and the standards setter for the equity release sector. In 2022, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of our standards which were first launched by our predecessor, Safe Home Income Plans.

Our members agree to adhere to our voluntary standards, which go beyond statutory regulation, enabling equity release to be a safe and trusted component of the UK’s financial sector. Our consumer-focused standards, combined with consumer need and innovation, are the drivers for sustainable growth in our sector. These standards and safeguards have allowed the sector to grow, giving financial advisers, and their customers, confidence in the available products.  They help to dispel myths about equity release and educate the consumer on how housing wealth can help many financial challenges.

Trust in our brand has resulted in a consistent growth in membership.  We bring the sector together, helping to strengthen its voice, with providers of equity release plans, solicitors, financial advisers, consultants, and other industry professionals, all committed to the principles of membership.
